Tutoring is a cost-effective way to deliver one-on-one teaching when:
- school instruction fails to meet your child’s needs
- keeping up with writing, math, science, foreign language, or study skills requires individualized assistance
- your child must cope with such changes as illness or relocation.
The tutor is intimate with the skills or subjects your child needs to master. The tutor tailors instruction to ensure that your child gains a greater understanding of the subject. Close attention is paid to your child’s pace and style so that he or she improves academically, gains skills, and builds self-esteem.
Turning Point’s tutors are credentialed teachers or skilled academicians selected for their knowledge of skills and subject matter, and for their ability to enter the challenge with your child and guide him or her to success. Turning Point’s tutors are independent contractors who can consult as often as needed with the educational therapist. The tutoring relationship ordinarily lasts for the school year. It may also be longer or shorter, depending on your child’s needs.
Your Home, School Site, or Our Office
The home visit is comfortable for the student, informative to the instructor, and convenient for busy parents or guardians.
School-site visits reduce evening time commitments and provide for convenient face-to-face communication with school staff and instructor. Parents normally pay for services, while the school provides space and facilitates scheduling.
Turning Point’s educational therapy office is located in Oakland off Redwood Road near the Redwood-Carson exit on Hwy 13, or the 35th Avenue exit off Hwy 580 (near Holy Names University). A welcoming neighborhood park is directly across the street. A parents’ reading space is also available.
